SPICT-4-ALL-TAMIL 2023
People with serious or life shortening conditions whose health is deteriorating often do not receive appropriate care planning and support. This is because their needs are either not recognized or only identified late, and the right support is therefore not offered in time.
The Supportive and Palliative Care Indicators Tool (SPICT™) is a simple tool developed to help healthcare and social care professionals identify people who could benefit from palliative care alongside their other treatments.
Staff working in healthcare, social care and care homes expressed the need for a version of SPICT™ in plain, accessible language with fewer medical terms.
SPICT-4ALL-TAMIL has been translated from the SPICT-4ALL (2023 version) to support the identification of people who may benefit from palliative care. It is intended to make it easier for everyone involved to recognize and discuss signs of possible health deterioration and plan future care. The goal is to enable patients and caregivers to receive better coordinated care—whether at home, in a nursing home, or in hospital.
It is anticipated that people with serious or life shortening conditions, together with their families, will use SPICT-4ALL-TAMIL to seek appropriate support and ensure that the right care and treatment are available when needed.
SPICT-4ALL-TAMIL has been translated systematically, tested, and adapted to the Tamil context by a team led by Dr Jenifer Jeba S, Christian Medical College Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India and Dr Shamini Prathapan, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Sri Lanka.
