Services Offered

We are a level 5 mission hospital in Kenya that offers many services, including clinics and inpatient wards with medical, surgical, paediatric, and obstetrics services. We have family medicine and surgery training programs in the hospital, and palliative care has become an important component of the training. We also have social workers who conduct home-based interventions and psychologists and chaplains who offer psychological and spiritual support to our patients.

SPICT Use

Since 2023, the SPICT Tool has been integrated into our Electronic Medical Records to allow patients with certain diagnoses to be screened for palliative care needs on admission. These patients are then linked up with the palliative care team, allowing holistic palliative care needs to be met.

Other Information

We are currently working on a pilot GOLD Standard Framework project that will allow us to identify patients in our institution for palliative care, and we will be using the SPICT tool for this identification.
