Services Offered

The hospice and palliative care system in South Korea has undergone significant development over the past several decades, evolving from a volunteer-based, religious-centered movement to a government-supported.

-Currently, the NHIS covers hospice care for terminally ill patients with:
• Cancer
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Chronic liver cirrhosis
• AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome)

-Types of Hospice and Palliative Care Services
• Inpatient Hospice Care
• Home Hospice Care
• Consultation-based Hospice Care

SPICT Uses

The SPICT-KR 2025 will be used in clinical practice and research studies that focus on the practical implementation of the SPICT-KR to assess palliative care needs and facilitate the early identification of target populations among healthcare professionals and patients in the Republic of Korea. This is expected to contribute to enhancing palliative care delivery and improving patient outcomes in diverse clinical settings.

Palliative Integration – Korean Association of SPICT Studies and Operations (PI-KASSO)

To support the dissemination and sustained use of SPICT-KR in the Republic of Korea, we have established a national working group (Palliative Integration – Korean Association of SPICT Studies and Operations (PI-KASSO)). This team comprises three academic institutions and is co-led by Dr Youn Seon Choi (Chair) and Dr Kyungmi Woo (Co-chair), with six additional researchers (Dr Aeri Kim, Dr Yoo Jeong Lee, Dr Junyong Lee, Mijin Bae, Dr Min Jeong Kim, Dr Su Hyun Kim) serving as core members.
